Staffing of Nursing Services in LTC

AHCA has prepared a paper entitled, "Staffing of Nursing Services in Long-Term Care: Present Issues and Prospects for the Future." In the paper, AHCA provides analysis that depicts the problems that nursing facilities face today in staffing nursing services - problems such as an inadequate labor pool, high turnover, and a disparity in wages between long term care and acute care settings.

The paper also covers the prospects for the future, including projections of the shortage in nursing personnel through 2020. Finally, the issue of staffing ratios, reviewing various proposals on staffing ratios, and estimating the cost for implementing such ratios is addressed.

The paper is available from the AHCA members-only web site at http://www.ahca.org/members/operate/staffing/staff-11/2000.htm.
