About Membership

Membership is available in five categories to organizations and individuals interested in the mission of the HAH upon application to and approval of the Board of Directors. Contact HAH at (808) 521-8961 for an application.

REGULAR MEMBERSHIP: Available to acute and long term care inpatient facilities, systems, assisted living facilities, type II care homes, and home care and hospice providers. Such entities must be licensed and/or operated in conformity with the licensure laws of the State of Hawaii, Medicare certified or accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) or Community Health Accreditation Program (CHAP). This category of membership receives full voting privileges. Membership dues are based on the facility's prior year's operating expenses.

Membership to systems, institutions, persons and organizations located outside of the State of Hawaii may be made dependent upon the particular circumstances of the applicants. Each application will be considered on its own merits and acceptance for membership shall not be construed as a precedent. In the event of institutional membership outside of the State of Hawaii, the provision that the facility be licensed and operating in conformity to the laws of the State of Hawaii shall not apply. However, such facilities must be licensed and operated in conformity with their local licensure laws.

Membership in the Long Term Care Division shall be open to any staff or trustee member from any regular member of the Association who has long term care beds and is in good standing.

AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP: Available to outpatient or other health-related providers of alternative, community-based services such as medical clinics, Type I care homes, case management and referral services and health care academic institutions. This category of membership does not receive voting privileges and shall receive limited membership privileges.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP: Available to firms or organizations that provide goods and services to the health care industry. This category of membership does not receive voting privileges and shall receive limited membership privileges.

PERSONAL MEMBERSHIP: Available to individuals, active or retired, in allied health fields and organizations not eligible for membership in the HAH. This category of membership does not receive voting privileges and shall receive limited membership privileges.

EMERITUS MEMBERSHIP: (1) Is an individual who has been employed in the health care field for ten years or more, (2) the institution in which he/she was employed must be a member of the Association, (3) he/she must not be actively employed at the time of the request, (4) in selecting the recipient, primary considerations shall be given to the following factors.

(a) welfare of patients,

(b) improvements in administrative methods and practices

(c) services in local, state or national organizations in the health care field,

(d) furtherance of good public relations,

(e) assistance to and collaboration with other healthcare institution,

(f) promotion of social and other legislation relating to better patient care, and

(g) advancement of the art and science of health care administration.
