OVERVIEW
The Healthcare Association of Hawaii is pleased to host our annual conference focused on long-term care!
Join us as we welcome three (3) post-acute care experts from our national affiliate, the American Health Care Association & National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). Our speakers will share the latest information related to compliance, quality, and workforce, focusing on nursing facility requirements and trends on day one, and incorporating information impacting assisted living and ARCH type II expanded care facilities on day two (see agenda below).

Amy Miller, RN, BSN, RAC-CT, CPC, serves as the Director of Clinical and Regulatory Services at the American Health Care Association. A registered nurse with over 25 years of experience in skilled nursing and long-term care, Amy brings a deep understanding of clinical operations, regulatory compliance, and healthcare quality improvement to her role.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Misericordia University in Pennsylvania and is certified as a Professional Coder (CPC) through the AAPC, as well as a Resident Assessment Coordinator–Certified (RAC-CT). Her broad expertise supports AHCA’s mission to improve lives by delivering solutions for quality care in post-acute and long-term care settings nationwide.
Holly Harmon, RN, MBA, LNHA, FACHCA

Holly Harmon, RN, BSN, MBA, LNHA, FACHCA brings both passion and a wealth of practical, real-world, clinical and operational experience to her role as Senior Vice President, Quality, Regulatory & Clinical Services at American Health Care Association (AHCA). She began her healthcare career 27 years ago as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and has been a Director of Nursing, Chief Nursing Officer and Administrator/Executive Director. Her extensive service in a wide array of settings including post-acute care, long term care, residential care, assisted living, independent living, a psychiatric hospital and occupational health have provided her with insights, knowledge, skills and innovative ideas and strategies which she exuberantly shares with others.
In her role at AHCA, she leads national quality, regulatory and clinical efforts across the post-acute and long-term care sector including resource development, regulatory analysis, policy development, education and training. She also leads AHCA’s advocacy and feedback to agencies such as CMS and CDC on how regulations and guidance need to pay attention to the resident’s quality of life and has gained meaningful changes in guidance for those who live and work in long term care.
She is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Administrators. She was recognized by McKnight’s Women of Distinction as a Hall of Honor Inductee in 2023. In addition to her vast clinical experience, prior to working at AHCA Ms. Harmon put her dynamic energy into leading the statewide Maine Culture Change Coalition/LANE as President, the Maine Partnership to Improve Dementia Care in Nursing Homes as Co-Chair, Vice-President of American College of Health Care Administrators, Maine Chapter and the Maine LANE Co-Convener for the national Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes Campaign.
She puts her boundless energy and warm and energetic personality into advocacy, education and presenting both nationally and locally. She has made simplifying the complex world of long term and post-acute care policy and practice an art.
Nisha Hammel, MSW
Vice President of Reimbursement Policy & Population Health
American Health Care Association & National Center for Assisted Living
Nisha Hammel, MSW serves as Vice President of Reimbursement Policy and Population Health for the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). In this role, she drives the association’s policy and strategic initiatives focused on value-based care and innovative payment models, including provider-led special needs plans, ACOs, emerging models, and managed care.
She also supports AHCA/NCAL’s Population Health Management Council, which champions long-term care provider-led solutions to improve outcomes and sustainability.
Nisha is a recognized thought leader with over 25 years of senior leadership and operational experience in post-acute care and senior living. She is a frequent speaker at national and state conferences on Medicare Advantage and alternative payment models.
Nisha holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Notre Dame
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Up to xx (xx) nursing and social work contact hours are pending approval for the AHCA/NCAL Post-Acute Care conference. To receive a Continuing Education Certificate each individual must pay the registration fee, attend the in-person training, sign in each day, and complete the corresponding HAH evaluation(s). Credit is awarded commensurate with participation. Certificates will be issued via email within 30 days after completion of the evaluation.
Available for participation at the live conference only: This nursing continuing professional development activity is pending approval by Oregon Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation for 13 contact hours. Approval valid through xx/xx/xxxx; OCEAN ID #2026-xx.
This program is pending approval by the National Association of Social Workers – Hawai’i Chapter (Approval HIxxxxxxxx-xxx) for up to 13 continuing education contact hours.
State licensure boards have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses. Dr. David Gifford, Holly Harmon, Nisha Hammel and the planners of this educational activity have no relevant financial relationships with ineligible companies to disclose.
LOCATION
This conference will be held at the Ala Moana Hotel in the Garden Lanai Room, on the 2nd floor above the lobby.
Parking validation (10 hours) for self-parking in the hotel parking garage will be provided. Valet parking is the responsibility of the individual and costs $35 per vehicle.

Conference Registration: $350 per person
Day 2 only (available to ALF/ARCH members only): $270 per person
Split registrations are not available. Cancellations are subject to a processing fee and will be accepted until February 11, 2025 (email lhenning@hah.org). No refunds for non-attendance.
