Kokua Mau Webinar: Getting Upstream: Palliative Care & Alternative Payment Models

Feb. 25, 10 am - 11:30 am

More information

Is a palliative care program right for your organization? This informative webinar will walk you through several considerations, including your organization’s ultimate goals (do they align with this service?), potential fraud and abuse risks, and the operational advantages or inefficiencies of a palliative care program.

AFTER THIS WEBINAR YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:

  • Identify controlling law and guidance for palliative care programs

  • Distinguish between main palliative care program models and key points of comparison

  • Understand guiding business questions on what palliative care program model is right for your organization

  • Explain existing palliative care service opportunities available under Medicare Part B and potential additional services requiring partnerships or CMS approval

  • Recognize the fraud and abuse concerns surrounding palliative care programs

WEBINAR DETAILS

Palliative care programs are growing in popularity as Medicare and commercial payors have begun to recognize the valuable role these programs play in patient care. In turn, this recognition has led to increased revenue streams, including Medicare Part B billing codes and contracts with commercial payors, both of which are increasingly focused on bundled payments with a movement away from fee-for-service. These trends are expected to continue, and palliative care programs will want the flexibility to provide an array of services. However, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to providing palliative care. Developing a successful palliative care program, which can be structured in a variety of ways, depends on several considerations, including the organization’s ultimate goals, potential fraud and abuse risks, and operational advantages or inefficiencies. Join the presenters as they delve into the current palliative care landscape and provide their unique insights on this growing area of patient care.

Kokua Mau Webinar: Intensive Skills Training for New Volunteer Managers: How to Utilize the Professional Volunteer

Feb. 17, 10 am - 11:30 am

More information

Don’t make growing your program harder than it needs to be. Professional hospice volunteers can help agencies not only meet, but exceed the 5% requirement. Understand the Medicare CoPs to ensure volunteers are meeting their full potential and do away with the unnecessary restrictions.

AFTER THIS WEBINAR YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:

  • Site Medicare CoPs related to the use of professional volunteers

  • Discuss three common dynamics related to the CoPs and your own agency’s policy restrictions

  • List 10 expanded uses for volunteers who have licenses, certifications, ordination, or other qualifications

  • Demonstrate the use of policies, training curricula, and other provided resources

  • Use three different methods of recruiting and marketing for professional volunteers

 WEBINAR DETAILS

There is an increasing need for volunteers as hospice programs continue to expand. However a nationally evolving dynamic is the increase of volunteer restrictions; a situation that is unnecessarily counterproductive to growing a volunteer program. Many agencies place excessive restrictions on volunteers because they do not fully understand the Medicare CoPs governing what volunteers can do. This webinar will focus on expanding the involvement of professional volunteers in a way that increases the ability to provide high-quality care, meet and exceed the 5% requirement, and provide relief to overworked staff. Involving community professionals as volunteers within your program is also an excellent way to market hospice programs and services.

Kokua Mau Webinar: Healthcare Due Diligence: The Who, What, Where & When

Feb. 11, 10 am - 11:30 am

More information

Do you know when to remain in the deal and when to walk away? In this constantly evolving healthcare landscape the due diligence process is essential. Learn the ins and outs of the process before agreeing to a merger or acquisition and feel confident about moving forward or calling it off.

AFTER THIS WEBINAR YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:

  • Identify key elements of the due diligence process within a merger and acquisition

  • Recognize risk areas within the due diligence process

  • Identify why starting the process early is critical

  • Discuss why it is essential to employ a seasoned veteran in the due diligence process as it relates to compliance with healthcare law and regulations

  • Follow due diligence guidelines and checklists

WEBINAR DETAILS

The healthcare industry is experiencing an increase within the aging population coupled with Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, and a shift towards post-acute care. This evolving environment is creating a surge of mergers and acquisitions. Regional players are merging with larger organizations and agencies wanting to provide the full post-acute care continuum are contemplating acquisitions versus a start-up. When considering an acquisition, the due diligence process enables the buyer to make a “go/no-go” decision about closing the deal. Due diligence also helps the buyer develop strategies to mitigate risk and allocate potential liabilities, which is critical in a heavily regulated environment. This webinar will review essential elements of the due diligence process, how to prepare, and who should be part of it from a compliance, financial, operational, and legal aspect. Learn how to identify potential areas of risk and how to leverage price based on compliance and that calculated risk. Participants will leave this webinar knowing when to remain in the deal and when to walk away.

Attendance certificate provided to self-report CE credits.
